These are common stories often heard by transnational adoptees yet like any Hollywood story they are often fabricated as an “abandoned” child. Like most misinformation, we adoptees ask and learn from our own communities.
Your adoption wasn’t legal if you don’t have the following documents in your adoption file.
!. Police Report
2. Documents from Korean Social Authorities (local or muncipal)
3. Documentation for the 15-days search for your family or relatives
4. Application and Certification of your orphan status
If you contact your adoption agency and they cannot provide these documents, then I’m sorry to inform you that your adoption was illegal. Unfortunately, you could be a victim of international human trafficking.
