Using Census Data for Businesses

  • How to use census data to develop the demographic portion of a business plan, choose a location for a business and measure business competition
  • The differences between Decennial Census Data and the American Community Survey
  • Other types of business data such as County/Zip Code Business Patterns
  • How to maneuver within the Census.gov and American Fact Finder websites to access Census data

Attendees are invited to follow along on their laptop provided they have a library card and pin number prior to the event. Please note, power sources and technical support will NOT be provided.

  • Overdrive: Find downloadable ebooks and audiobooks here. Overdrive offers bestsellers and longtime favorites for your smartphone, tablet, Kindle, e-reader, PC, or Mac. There are plenty of bestselling business titles available for loan day or night!
  •  Zinio: Download current issues of numerous magazines to your computer, phone, or tablet. Popular business titles include TheEconomist, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Forbes, and Kiplinger’s. There are back issues of these titles available as well.
  • Freading: Download ebooks with no waiting lists! Find books in all genres by popular authors. Popular and technical books on business and economics are available instantly. Be sure to select “Business & Economics” from the category menu. There are many relevant subcategories to explore as well, including business writing, business ethics, advertising, consulting, finance, and more!

Digital Learning: Resources to help you learn a new language, master computer software, build an iPhone app, or take one of the hundreds of business courses.

  • Universal Class: Sign up for free online classes on business, entrepreneurship, computers, and more! Just a few of the classes offered include How to Build Your Own Business, Marketing, and Bookkeeping. Take courses any time and at your own pace.
  • Treehouse: Learn how to code, make apps, web design, and start a business. Sign up for online classes and tutorials in CSS, HTML, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, iOS, and more!
  • Learning Express Library: Learn about careers and business skills. Discover information about a number of careers and take practice exams. Skill building is also offered in a variety of subjects. Many resources are also available in Spanish.
